Abscessed Tooth: What You Should Know

Posted .

Had you heard that there are a number of things you could do to protect your oral health. For instance, brushing and flossing are extremely important to improving your oral health. If you don’t, you may also have to cope with tooth decay, but did you know that an unaddressed cavity could spread and cause more serious issues, such as an abscess?

For example, did you know that decay can eventually spread to the center of your tooth? If this happens, you may need root canal therapy to save your tooth—but bacteria will also be able to reach the center of your teeth more easily. Unfortunately, this can leave you vulnerable to an abscess—which is a painful pocket of pus. While this might not seem like an incredibly serious problem, did you know that an abscess can actually lead to a number of complications? For instance, if you have an abscess, you might have an unusual taste in your mouth, a fever, or pain when you bite and chew. If you’re worried that you have an abscess, we recommend contacting our team as soon as possible.
